William Jones Obituary

Mr. William "Billy" Dearl Jones, 72, of Shreveport, passed away on Monday, April 4, 2022. Billy was born in Jasper on Saturday, September 3, 1949, to William Burnett Jones and Helen Ruth (Murray) Jones and was one of seven children.

Billy was probably the toughest man you’d ever know; little stopped or even slowed him down in life. A capable and determined man who always knew how to get the job done right, Billy was a hard worker and an amazing father. Seen by many as not only a sterling man of strong character but also quite a looker in his day as well, Billy too would build a large family over the course of his life- much like his parents before him. Billy’s devotion to his children was never something that could be questioned; an active father in a time when fatherly participation wasn’t all that normal, Billy was always willing to be involved and present for his children. Through out his life Billy was blessed to have loved many people who came into his life, but his late beloved wife Wanda was truly the apple of his eye; upon her passing in 2020 the couple was just shy of 40 years of marriage and Billy’s life was just never quite the same.

Many people will remember Billy as a notorious and eccentric funny man who always had a story being told around town about something he’d done at some point in his life. A great lover of the outdoors, fishing and especially golf; Billy was truly at home anywhere with sunshine and nature. Backyard BBQs and Thanksgiving dinners were some of Billy’s favorite times, most likely because it gave him an opportunity to spend time with his ever-growing family. If there is one thing to remember about Billy, it is truly that he loved his family and cherished every memory and moment. Billy’s legacy of living life to the fullest, embracing the humor, and above all- LOVE, will not soon be forgotten and he will be missed by all that knew him.

Left to cherish Billy’s memory are his eight children: Karen Szemborski and husband George, Kathy Barnett, Kristie Dorman and husband Kirk, Bryan Jones, Brianne Williams and husband Dustin, Jake Jones and wife Linda, Brent Jones and wife Hollie, and Wade Jones and wife Beth; his siblings, Charles Jones and wife Linda, Janet Martz and husband Paul, Carolyn Mancil and husband John, Jerry Jones, and Ike Jones; his beloved brother-in-law and friend, Michael Moore; his ex-wife, Sue Davenport; his 23 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; as well as numerous friends, loved ones, and extended family members through the years.

Billy was preceded in death by his beloved wife of nearly 40 years, Wanda Jones; his parents, William B. Jones and Helen (Murray) Jones; his late wife, Deborah Kirby; and his brother, Tommy Jones and wife Mildred.
