Robert Burks Obituary

Robert Carlton Burks, of Kirbyville, TX passed away at the age of 65 after a long battle with cancer and kidney disease. Robert was born in Texas City, TX to Clarence Arlan Burks and Tommie Jean Walker Burks. His family moved to Kirbyville and then to Magnolia Springs when he was a young boy. Robert was a Kirbyville High School graduate and remained a resident of the area throughout most of his life.

Robert pursued careers in the construction and commercial truck driving industries and was also a former member of the Kirbyville Fire Department. He made new friends with ease and enjoyed getting together with old friends. He was a fan of crawfish and cracklins whose favorite pastimes were playing the guitar & singing, dancing, and he especially enjoyed fishing with his grandson. He’ll be remembered for his willingness to help a friend in need, his sense of humor, and his perseverance in challenging times.

Robert was preceded in death by both of his parents. He leaves behind his daughter, Bianca Burks & close friend Jean Logan of Houston, TX and his son, Nick Burks, wife Tonia Burks, and grandson Carson Burks, of Luling, TX. Also surviving are his elder sister, Tina Garrett & husband Jim of Cedar Creek, TX, and his younger sister Alta Kirk of Kirbyville, TX.

The family would like to give thanks to all who brought him comfort in his time of need and especially the many classmates from the Kirbyville High School Class of 1971 who lifted his spirits with kind words and provided encouraging support in visitation and in prayer. Utmost and deepest gratitude to classmates Reba Davis Smith & Wes Evans for extra special care, love, and support.

A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Saturday, November 10, 2018 at 2pm at the Magnolia Springs Cemetery on FM 1005 in Kirbyville, TX (approximately 5 miles north of FM 1013). The cemetery is adjacent to Magnolia Springs United Methodist Church & Fellowship Missionary Baptist Church.
