Merle Whitten Obituary

Merle Lee Ozan Whitten went to be with the Lord on Saturday, September 05, 2020, at the age of 73. Merle was born on September 19, 1946, to Merle (Mutt) Ozan and Henry Lee Ozan in Roganville, Texas.  Merle was the oldest of 4 children. Merle married the love of her life, Fred (Bubba) Whitten, Jr., on September 17, 1966. Merle was a loving wife; mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and she loved her Lord and her family. After she raised 2 boys, she worked for the Newton ISD until her retirement. She loved to cook, fish, spend time with her husband and family, and have family get togethers as often as possible. Merle is preceded in death by her father Merle Ozan and her mother Henry Lee Ozan; and her brother James “Bubba” Ozan. Merle leaves behind her husband of 53 years, Fred Whitten, Jr.; her sons, Fred “Freddy” Whitten, III and wife Sarah, and Henry Whitten and wife Stacey; her sister Carrie Alford and husband Sandy; her brother Bill Ozan and wife Janean; her seven grandchildren, Samantha Chesson and husband Keith, Crystal Reynolds and husband Bobby, Michael Whitten, Kimberly Whitten, Marcus Vidal, Tiffany Whitten, and Dusty Whitten; and her eight great-grandchildren.

Serving as Pall Bearers will be Michael Whitten, Marcus Vidal, Dusty Whitten, Dyllon Brown, Jeremy Reynolds, Davey Brasher, with honorary Pall Bearers Edwin (Little Bubba) Frazier, and Will Ozan.

To honor Merle’s life, a visitation and services will be held at Forest Oaks Funeral Home in Jasper, TX. Visitation will be from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM on Thursday, September 10, 2020. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 11, 2020 at 10:00 AM with the burial following at the Friendship Cemetery. 

At this time, all attendees for services should be aware that masks are required for every person in attendance for any services being held for Mrs. Merle Whitten.
