Mary Runnels Obituary

Mary Maumee Runnels, 90, of Houston, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2020. Born January 24, 1930 in Braddus, TX to O.K. Runnels and Lottie Harvey. An extremely intelligent woman, Mary earned a PhD in Philosophy and dedicated her life to the education of others; from teaching home economics as a high school teacher to being a professor with various universities in many states over the course of her career, Mary’s impact on those around her cannot be denied. A strong, independent, kind, resilient, and accomplished woman- Mary will be missed by all those around her.

Left to cherish her memory are her cousins, Dan Marcus Runnels of Lumberton and Michael Runnels of Austin; as well as numerous extended family members, prior students, and friends.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, O.K and Lottie Runnels.

There will be a graveside service to honor Mary’s life on Monday, November 9, 2020 at 12:00 PM at Runnels Cemetery in Braddus, TX.
