Kenny Holton Obituary

Kenny Holton

1955 - 2019

Kenneth Earl Holton Jr, age 63, passed away on July 3, 2019. He was born on July 30, 1955 in Ausburg, Germany to Kenneth Earl Holton Sr. and Bertha Sue Holton.

A fighter, a warrior, Kenny possessed a strength that lasted until his very last breath. He was a man’s man that held a hardworking spirit recognized by all that knew him; he fought to live, for his family, for the things and the people that he loved so fully and completely. There was a joy in Kenny that expressed itself so continuously; he was the friend and family member that was always striving to make others happy and finding ways to bring a smile on faces of those around him through the tough times and the good times, no matter the circumstances. Somewhat a goofball at times, he was always the life of the party, always loving to make people laugh. This was the theme of his life, an inner joy, and God gave him a beautiful singing voice to express the pure beautiful melody that came from within him. He would often break out in song: singing praises in church in his youth; making up playful songs at many occasions and holidays to capture the moment and often, to poke fun at family members, especially his sisters; softly chanting bedtime songs for his beloved daughter at bedtime to help her sleep; and as he spent his final days, often being found with a hymn book or singing along with the television in his living room. In the Spring of 2010, he was introduced by friends to the love of his life and companion until his last, Teresa, and they would spend the next 9 years by each other’s side. Kenny had the fantastic idea to marry Teresa on February 15, 2011, so that he could romantically celebrate Valentine’s Day and their anniversary simultaneously every year. They were so in love that they travelled to one of his favorite places, New Orleans, and at the Courthouse there, joined by some of their many faithful friends, Pogie and Sally Pope, they were married. Kenny loved his work and poured himself fully into it, being proud of his career in oil, gas and nuclear refineries all over the world and making many friends along the way. Fishing was a lifelong passion for Kenny, from his youth fishing with his late best friend and brother-in-law, Ronnie, to spending many hours fishing with his family, particularly with his grandbabies at the family pond in Lufkin. For Kenny, it did not matter what he was catching and really would catch whatever would bite; he just loved to fish. Coming from family that enjoyed playing games, he enjoyed this most in his final days, spending many hours playing games at his kitchen table with family; he went out a winner, landing a 6 game Yatzhe winning streak against his mother and sister the day before he passed. Kenny would often quip, quoting one of his favorite comedians, “By God, how big a boy are you?”, and well, Kenny did not have a sissy bone in his body. Kenny was a man to be admired and loved for so many reasons, but most importantly, this warrior will be missed for all the passion that he lived life with, leaving many memories and a legacy for all his loved ones to cherish.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife, Teresa Brown Holton; daughter, Kendra Holton Johnson and husband, John; his mother; siblings, Kay Kirkland and husband, Ron of San Antonio, TX, Cheryl Malone of Lufkin, TX, Pat "Bumpy" Girardo and husband, Johnny, of Lufkin, TX and Stevie Holton of Baytown, TX; step-daughter, Nikki "Nicole" Ingram and husband, Deven; step-son, Hutch "James" Thompson and significant other, Keri Williams; grandchildren, Kaitlyn, Andrea, Hunter, Gracie, Wallace, Ayden, Carter, Charlie, Jane, Kayden; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Preceding Kenny in death is his father and brother-in-law and lifelong best friend, Ronnie Malone.
