George Fullen Obituary

George Walter “G.W.” Fullen, 70, of Jasper passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, February 1, 2020. G.W. was born on December 6, 1949 in Jasper, Texas to Esther Robinson Fullen and Walter Fullen. One of three children, G.W. spent his entire life in Jasper. After graduating from Jasper High School, G.W. went on to pursue a long career working with Visador Co. in Jasper installing lead glass. He then spent 21 years employed at Beards, where he pursued his passion for computers. A simple, honest man of well-defined routine, G.W.’s movements could easily be predicted and counted on. April 26, 1974 George married the love of his life, Elizabeth Ann Ponder, and would go on to spend 45 years walking by her side and sharing life’s trials and joys with her. When not working G.W. was an easy-going, patient family man, as a father to two children and Papaw to his grandchildren he was always there with a word of advice or time to spend. G.W. had many hobbies over the course of his life, from riding motorcycles as a younger man to his life-long fascination with Hamm Radios and computers. Later in life G.W. loved to spend time with his grandsons on their boats, harkening back to the times he used to take them out on the lake when they were younger. G.W. was a man of many talents- not the least of which was his ability to “fix” anything, even if that didn’t mean it had been fixed in a traditional manner. A consummate resource of advice and knowledge for family but particularly his grandkids, G.W. led a life of leadership and love that will leave a lasting mark on his entire family.

Left to honor the memory of George is his devoted wife of 45 years, Elizabeth Ann Fullen of Jasper; his daughter, Lisa Leger and husband Michael of Newton; his son, David Fullen of Jasper; his sister, Ruby Korenek and husband Ivan of Tomball; his sister-in-law, Linda Walden of Jasper; his grandchildren, Alex Sanders and wife Leah of Jasper, Aaron Leger of Newton, and Robert Sanders and wife Lindsey of Jasper; and his great-grandchildren, Bently Leger and Madelynn Sanders; as well as his life-long church family of Bishop Chapel Missionary Baptist Church and numerous friends over the years.

George is preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Esther Fullen; and his sister Judy Fullen Riley.
