Dora Damrel Obituary

Jane Damrel

1935 - 2020

Dora Jane (Motes) Damrel, age 85, passed away on February 28, 2020. Jane was born on January 24, 1935 in Hamilton, MS to Orbie Lloyd and Robbie Lucille (Burnett) Motes.

Fiery and devoted, whomever she loved and whatever she endeavored to do, Jane fully invested herself. The deep love that she had for her family not only endeared Jane to them, but they knew that she lived for them, believed in them and supported them. Throughout her life, her accepting nature welcomed strangers and family alike into her care and home. Growing up in Aberdeen, MS, she was working as a waitress in a local diner, when in walked a young Texan, Falvy. His heart was stolen straightway by Jane, and a love was born that would burn brightly for the next 43 years. They married on December 21, 1957 and were blessed with a family, a legacy of their love. Her children always found her cheering them on at school, church and sporting events; “MawMaw” or “Granny”, as her grandchildren called her, beckoned each grandchild into her home and daily life; and when she became “Mimi”, a great-grandmother and great-great grandmother, there was always a tight hug, an “I love you”, and occasionally a lipstick mark from her kisses on their cheek. Her past-times were numerous, and continuing after the death of Falvy, she stayed active. Gardening was not just a hobby for Jane, she mastered it. Her yard was full of camellias, crepe myrtles, and an array of other beautiful plant she cultivated. Mirroring her passionate, loving heart, she read an abundance of romance novels, and immersed herself in film and shows, like the Gilmore Girls, Steel Magnolias and Terms of Endearment. As a devout, lifelong Christian, Jane lived well on this Earth. Though she is gone, she will be forever cherished by her family and friends.

Left to honor her memory is her daughter, Denise Damrel and husband, Leonard Ford, of Forest Hill, LA; son, Ray Damrel and wife, Priscilla, of Magnolia, TX; sisters, Sara Rives, of Clewiston, FL and Linda Marie Lee of Belle Glade, FL; grandchildren, Jason Baldwin, Melinda Brister, Jacqueline Gillette and husband, Charlie, Jessica Tuttle and husband, Brian, and Stephen Damrel; great-grandchildren, Ashleigh Baldwin, Jason Baldwin, Darion Wilson, Devin Wilson, Makala Wilson, Alexandra Gillette, Thomas Gillette, Andrew Gillette, Madeline Tuttle, Violet Tuttle and William Tuttle; 7 great-grandchildren; close friends, Fred & Karen Gay and Sheila; and numerous nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

Jane is preceded in death by her loving husband, Lewis Falvy Damrel; her parents; and brothers, Buddy Motes and Orbie Motes Jr.
