Christine "MawMaw Tine" (Roberts) Lakey

Mrs. Christine Vernie (Roberts) Lakey, 83, of Farrsville, TX passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Sunday, April 24, 2022. She was born in Bronson, TX on Sunday, January 1, 1939, to Archie Roberts and Odell Vernie (Flowers) Roberts. Christine was a devoted wife, mother, and “MawMaw Tine”; her family, grandchildren, and great grandchildren were everything to her. She had a few careers over the course of her life but was most proud of being a Nurses Aid. One of Christine’s favorite hobbies was tending to her beautiful flowers- which she enjoyed watering every day. Christine also loved growing delicious vegetables in her garden and was an excellent seamstress; she sewed everything from clothing to curtains for her family over the years. Christine could also be found hand fishing and camping regularly; she truly loved the outdoors and God’s beauty in nature. Christine loved the Lord Jesus with all her heart and enjoyed reading her bible faithfully as well. The times that made Christine the happiest where when her entire family was together for family gatherings and get-togethers. Christine was a kind and loving woman who will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Left to cherish Christine’s legacy and memory is her beloved husband of 67 years, Drew Lakey of Farrsville,TX; her daughters: Doris Marshall and husband Elton of Farrsville,TX, Gwen Dunn and husband Chase of Jasper, TX, and Frankie Hyden and husband Roger of Scrapping Valley, TX; her siblings: Elzie Robert and wife Glenda of Jasper, TX, Charlene Williams of Houston, TX, Johnnie Faye Blake of Wynona, TX, Thelma May Overstreet of Farrsville, TX, and June Dunhon of Deridder, LA; her grandchildren: Wayne Marshall and wife Kelli of Farrsville, TX, Angela McLaughlin and husband Josh of Lumberton, TX, Brad Dunn and wife Jennifer of Lumberton, TX, Christina Wagner and husband Ben of Scrapping Valley, TX, Winter Hyden of Nacogdoches, TX, and McKenzie Hyden of Scrapping Valley, TX; her great grandchildren: Drew and Brendon Marshall of Farrsville, TX, Christopher and Annberleigh Wagner of Orange, TX, Koen and Mia McLaughlin of Lumberton, TX, and Seth and Pepper Dunn of Lumberton, TX; as well as numerous extended family members, loved ones, and friends throughout the many years.

Christine is preceded in death by her parents, Archie Roberts and Odell Vernie (Flowers) Roberts.

In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to be made to Olive Branch Hospice who worked so hard to get her home, or to the charity of your choice.

To honor Christine’s life a graveside service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2022, at Weeks Chapel Cemetery (315 County Rd. 233 Jasper, TX 75951) beginning at 2:30 PM.
