Earl Watson Obituary

Earl Nathan Watson passed away on May 14, 2019. He was born on July 14, 1933 in Panola County, TX To Earl Baker Watson and Addie B. Watson.

Earl was a preacher of the Gospel to his very core; he loved God and loved his family. Whether a friend or stranger, a conversation with Earl always included the Lord. As a long time minister, he would often be found voluntarily preaching at several nursing homes as well as for the Lake Side Ministry. From the age of 10, Jasper was Earl's home, he played football for the Jasper Bulldogs and during one football game his front teeth were knocked out due to the lack of helmet face guards at that time, after which Earl became the first Jasper Bulldog in school history to wear a face guard. After high school, he joined the United States Army, serving our country honorably. Returning home, he received the news that a blind date had been arranged for him by his nephew, a student of his date; that first date began a story of love that lasted 62 years. Earl and Irene married on January 27, 1957 and their love produced 3 children, 8 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren, all because of a blind date. He retired after his 32 year career with the Texas Department of Transportation, working in the maintenance department. While Earl's love for food was apparent and puppies brought him joy, it was always his family that had his heart. He will be missed dearly but never forgotten.

Left to honor his memory is his loving wife of 62 years, Irene Watson of Jasper, TX; daughters, Rita Martin and husband, Jack of Texarkana, TX and Nita Rhame of Jasper, TX; son, Terry Watson and wife, Christina, of Jasper, TX; grandchildren, Andy Martin, Cody Rhame, Chris Martin, Rachel McClintock, Brittni Arnold, Kayla Inman, Mark Watson, and Kellie Grace Watson; 8 great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family.

Earl is preceded in death by his parents; his 2 brothers; 5 sisters.
