Jean Baptiste Champagne Jr, age 89, passed away Tuesday July 11, 2017. He was born to Jean Baptiste Champagne Sr. and Angelique Romain on May 9, 1928 in Breaux Bridge, LA.
JB, as he was known to many, was a hard working grocery owner who believed in being available. One could only catch him closed on only two holiday's, Thanksgiving and Christmas. He served our Good Lord through his hard work and his value of family.
JB was a very patriotic man. He served his nation as a United States National Guardsman. He and his beloved wife, Dora, started their lives and within their 50 years of marriage they have started providing groceries to the communities of Port Arthur, TX, Irving, TX. and for the later part of his career, Poches Groceries in Brookland, Texas; where you can find the best boudin this side Texas. It was so good, that his customers came all the way from Louisiana.
A faithful man, JB, was a parishioner of Saint Michael's Catholic Church in Jasper, Texas. As a member of his church, he continued his service as a Knight with Knight's of Columbus, Council #1584. His generation will be missed, but his legacy will continue with his many nieces and nephews.
Left to honor his memory is his loving step daughters, Rita Romero and her companion Gene LaBlanc and Jerry Elizando; Step grandchildren, Wendy and husband Doug Meyer, Brad Broussard and wife Lan, and Mauri Elizando; Great grand children, Nicholas Snyder and Renno Sullivan; also survived by many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
Preceding Jean in death is his beloved wife of 50 years, Dora Champagne; his parents; sisters, Felicione and Matilde; Brothers, Francis, Maurice, Andrew, Antione, and Merrill.
Visitation with family and friends will be Thursday July 13, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Forest Oaks Funeral Home, 601 W. Gibson, Jasper, TX. with a rosary to be recited at 6:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Ron Foshage, Friday July 14, 2017 10:00 am, at Saint Raymond Mission Church FM 1007 at 255, Sam Rayburn, TX. Committal West Oaks Cemetery, Jasper, Tx.
