Anna Louise Kinnear

January 5, 1926 ~ May 27, 2017 (age 91) 91 Years Old


Anna Jagoe Kinnear, 90, of Jasper, passed away at her home Saturday, May 27, 2017.  A Celebration of Life will be held Wednesday, May 31 at 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church in Jasper.  The family will greet friends at the church following the memorial service.  Born December 5, 1926 in El Paso, Texas to John and Norma Kent Jagoe, she was a resident of Jasper for the past 68 years.  

On Jan. 1, 1947 she was El Paso's Sun Queen the first year that the Sun Parade went into Mexico.  She was also the parade's grand marshal, and is still the only Sun Queen to have that honor.  (Other past grand marshals include Conrad Hilton, Mickey Mantle, and Gen. Omar Bradley.)

Anna attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she was a member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority, and where she met Joe Bruce Kinnear in a coffee shop one morning.  She graduated with a Bachelor's of Science degree in Psychology in 1948, and married Joe Bruce in El Paso on December 31, 1948.  She was a member of Jasper Garden Club, and a founding member of Trinity Episcopal Church.

She is survived by her sons, Mike & wife Paula Kinnear of Jasper, and John & wife, Silvia Kinnear of Jasper; daughter, Nikki & husband, Mike Lee of Zachary, Louisiana; grandchildren, Julie & husband, Jason Morgan, Brayden Lee, Kerri Lee, Isaac Kinnear, Joe Kinnear, & Eric Kinnear; as well as great grandchildren, Delanie Morgan & Lexie Morgan; and brother, John Jagoe Jr. & wife, Charlene.  She is preceded in death by her husband, Joe Bruce Kinnear, her sister, Betty Jagoe Barefoot, and her grandson, Josh Kinnear.
